Currently this is not possible but it is something we hope to add in the future!
Dylan (and everyone) we are looking at this actively! We know how important this is to our users, and on one level it might be simple to implement, but it connects to a number of more complicated factors and managing all those various decisions is quite tricky. So with our other priorities it is taking us some time. Don't give up on us! Solutions are on their way! :-)
See here for additional comments, many are relevant to this: http://feedback.noteflight.com/forums/4962-tell-us-your-thoughts/suggestions/2386818-fix-the-instrument-cut-off-problem
We will work on this! For now, you can add these for how the score LOOKS, even though not for playback sounds:
Create a new instrument from an existing one that is similar (for example, create a trombone if you need bass trombone). Before closing the dialog, change the "key" to the transposition you need, or the octave (for the bass). Also change the names. The instrument will then look and behave like the instrument you need.
Update! We have now added the option to adjust:
- text size
SO: We have renamed this to be only related to the ability to change the font of the text, which is still not an option.
If you only needed the option to change text SIZE, you can un-vote for this and use your vote for something else.
Are you looking for a different music font (shapes of notes, clefs, etc), or a different text font, or both?
Paul, that is a fair point! Just to check: you can change the zoom and overall staff size, so I'm wondering: is it the relative size text-to-staff that's the issue? It's true we don't offer that feature.
If playback is not important, you can use this workaround: create a dashed line (Lines palette) and a Performance text item in front "15ma".
Ok thanks for the update!
This seems to be two related things:
1. On any single note, whether one voice or two, you can’t add an arpeggio. This makes sense though perhaps there are situations you’d want one?
2. An arpeggio can’t extend from one voice (with at least two notes in a chord) to another voice (also with at least two notes in a chord).
It seems you are commenting primarily on the second factor?
Ok thank you. We will discuss this idea, though I don't have a timeframe I can promise. :)
"it would only be the chord symbols that need to have the option of being locked. When I am transcribing or working on a composition, I set up the system with the chord symbols ahead of time. So when I make changes to the note's position or wish to paste a passage over a section with different chord symbols, I don't want to paste chord symbols along with the notes.
So a switch to lock the chords would be great.
Along the same lines, the ability to print the transposed chord symbols with all the horn parts. Chord symbols would only be entered once, but a check box to print the transposed chords symbols. Also the fonts don't kern properly for C-7 - the "-" overlaps into the C's interior, appearing to be a G7."
We know how important this is and we are discussing options. Thank you!
Hello Trish, thank you for your comment - we will discuss this with hopes to add a feature in the near future. Feature discussions are always complex and rest on many variables so I can't immediately promise a given result, but we see the importance of this and we want to make it work for your daughter and others!
Thank you for your comment. What are some of your favorite other softwares that do this?
This type of automation is currently outside our plans, but we will keep it in mind in the future.
Hi Anthony, Greg, and others,
Google Classroom compatibility with Noteflight is in the works now, and should be released soon! Stay tuned for updates, and please write us with any questions you might have.
Thank you! We are getting close and it will be worth the wait! :-)
Yes, this should be available very soon, so definitely for the fall. Google Drive integration is not currently part of this - just Classroom. Since all scores exist online already, there is no need for file hosting or upload. But please tell us more about how you would use Drive with Noteflight!
Update: there was a bug in which upper and lower voices within a staff were not sustaining the same way - that is now fixed!
We have overhauled our Search option! Read all about it here: https://notes.noteflight.com/noteflight-improves-search-features/
Note: we have not yet implemented all of the ideas listed here, but many of them are still in our future plans. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, enjoy the much-improved search functionality!
The option to show if a score is original was merged into this.
It has 545 votes so it is very important to this feature.
This is something we are thinking a lot about these days. Stay tuned for more news!
And if you are an education Noteflight Learn user, check out our Content Libraries! https://notes.noteflight.com/noteflight-learn-content-libraries/
Could you tell us more about why you would need this? What types of scores or situations?
Thank you. For now you will need to use our existing tools such as "create a system" (layout palette) and put the same number of bars in each system" and it should align pretty closely. In the future we can look at ways to refine this.
for a value of 6 quarter notes, use a dotted whole note, which we currently allow. Of course you need to change the time signature to make room for it.
We will take a look and get back to you!
Our free version includes just the drum sets.
Hello, this is a known bug we are working on. For now, try moving those items a little further from the bar lines. It is just a little border that is getting in the way.
hello, please make sure you are following one of these methods:
To print or create a PDF, click the menu icon on the upper left inside the score, then choose the “score” palette.
There are two options, and the exact workflow differs a bit between different browsers.
Option 1: To print directly to a printer, choose “Print.” Some browsers may open the score in a different browser window, and ask you to print that. For more information:
Option 2: You can create a PDF, download it, and print that. To create a PDF, select “Export” in the same "score" palette, then “Export to PDF.” You can print a PDF from a program such as Adobe or Mac Preview. For more information:

John, this is a bug we will be fixing, but it requires some deeper "under the hood" work that takes time.
PS Please email the following info to email@example.com:
— your username
— all browsers you've tried, with version numbers
— all devices/computers you have tried, including operating system(s)
— name of school and school Noteflight site, if you are using one
— a link to a score (if possible)
— screenshots or screen video showing the problem (if possible)
We are working to get this fixed! Thank you!
This page is for an offline MOBILE iOS/Android APP version, not desktop/laptop. To vote for a desktop app, see: http://feedback.noteflight.com/forums/4962-tell-us-your-thoughts/suggestions/6796778-offline-downloadable-version
You can already use NF on tablets, as long as they have internet access! Just go to the web browser on any device and go to www.noteflight.com and it works!

Shannon, you CAN use NF on the iPad - the only difference is that it's not an app but instead is opened through the regular Safari web browser. Just open Safari and go to noteflight.com and you're set!
Yes you can do that! NF works on mobile devices (especially Apple at this point), but not as a standalone app. Instead, just open the internet browser on your phone and go to noteflight.com!
Then in the HTML5 editor (the one that appears on iPads and iPhones), click "perform".

We are sorry not to have provided a fuller reply! We marked this "Under review" which was our way of saying that we are discussing it - and indeed we have been actively discussing it in the last few months, because we know how important it is to our users like you. The decision-making process for new features is very tricky and involves balancing a lot of factors. Sometimes a very needed and desirable feature like this is very complicated for our software developers to build, or involves redesigning or altering other features that many users already depend on. So, that's a long way of saying that although we probably won't have this feature ready within the next few months, we have not forgotten about it! We sincerely hope you'll stick with us, and we truly value your feedback.
