  1. Add French Horns to the Free version of Noteflight

It is difficult to compose any music for the horn selection without French Horns, and still make it sound good. I understand that there must be aspects in the Premium version that the free version doesn't have, so that people feel the need to buy it, but French Horns are so essential in my composing, it's hard to write without them. Please Help! Thank you :)

  2. Add the note name in for you.

I wish noteflight.com has an optional feature to add the names of the notes for you. It would be extremely helpful for beginners or when assigned by a teacher. Now I have to go in and take the time to write out every note name, because we were required to use noteflight.com instead of my normal music writing software which had that option available.

  3. Create more tuplets and polyrhythms

like having a 9-tuplet grouping in 16th notes and having a 4:3 poly rhythm

  4. Make it possible to write for Euphonium/Baritone

Well, basically I write a lot of pieces for marching and symphonic/wind ensembles. Every time I go to write the Euphonium part, I have to use Trombone (for Bass Clef Euph.) or Trumpet an octave down (for Treble). Noteflight, could you sample some Euphoniums to add to the list of instrumentation?

  5. Stop the hi-hat audio when a hi-hat is "closed"

As a drummer, I often find myself frustrated with the fact that when I play an open hi-hat note, and want a sort of "tee-op" sound by closing the hi-hat soon afterwards (usually a 16th or 8th note later), the audio does not cut off and I have to listen to it ring throughout the beat until the actual audio sample ends. My suggestion would just be to cut it off when a "hi-hat with foot" or a closed hi-hat (+) is notated, if not use an actual audio sample for the cut-off. I made a quick score that shows…

  6. Allow Users to Interact More

This is an amazing website that I appreciate dearly for allowing me the chance to express myself musically with such ease and efficiency; however, I find it frustrating that I cannot connect with other composers for collaboration and possible growth by interaction in our shared medium. Grant users the option to connect with their peers.

  7. multiple measure repeat

In February, the "Repeat Measure" symbol was implemented (see: http://feedback.noteflight.com/forums/4962-tell-us-your-thoughts/suggestions/2765497-include-the-repeat-measure-symbol-a-forward-slash ).
That's great! However, many users on that thread (myself included) have requested a "multiple measure" repeat symbol -- which repeats a two bar phrase.
The symbol used is the same percent sign looking thingy, *//*, but there is a "2" above it and it straddles the barline.
Such functionality would be **greatly** appreciated, as it's really important for jazz charts, etc.

  8. Have the option to merge instead of overwrite on paste.

After transcribing a piece of music, I often wish Noteflight would allow me to select some bars on a staff and merge the notes with those of another selection on a separate staff instead of overwriting them. This would be invaluable for creating single - instrument arrangements of a piece of music. A way I think this could be implemented is with a separate paste operation available along with the default paste in the edit menu.

That’s a good idea. It’s a bit tricky to decide what “merge” means in this case though. Do you mean add a separate voice on the destination staff with the pasted material? Or do you mean, let the destination staff alone in places where the pasted material contains only silence?

  9. Quindicesima / 15ma as notation option

Please add 15ma along with 8va as a notation option.

  10. Improve Marching Percussion

(Not exactly a new idea) I am simply adding my support to the idea of incorporating marching percussion into the program's features. Noteflight would gain a TON of new users if this were available. Noteflight is a great program, but honestly I have no use for it until further drum notations such as flams, buzz rolls, and the like are added (these are absolutely neccessary for drum notation).

  12. add a simile option in the measure line choices, for us that write quick "studio" style charts

Difficult to write the very common simile sign to repeat X number of bars in a phrase for instance, to keep studio charts short and simple. This is VERY common in studio charts and would be an excellent way to make this program work for live and studio situations where people don't know the music.

  13. Add dynamic support within a note

As of now, Noteflight playback doesn't allow for crescendo/decrescendo on a single tone or throughout a trill. It would be great to have that feature.

  14. Add Shape Notes

Shaped noteheads (in addition to the ones already available) for Solfege representation. Use the seven-shape system (which would also support four shape/sacred harp). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shape_note

  15. have playback for harmonics

Maybe I'm not aware of the feature -- but I'd like to notate harmonics on string instruments and have the (correct) pitches played. For example: I'd like to use a diamond note head on middle C on a violin and have g'' play back. Even if there's no change in timbre it'd be great to be able to notate harmonics, especially artificial harmonics.

In the meantime (if this idea would be considered), is there an existing work-around? As in, is there any way can I have the playback play notes that do not match the notes written (e.g., solid note…

There is no way to have certain notes play back different sounds. There is a complicated, imperfect workaround though… you could add a separate staff with just the alternate notes, and then un-check that staff in the instruments list to hide it. Then take the notes in the main part you don’t want to hear, and make them pppp, and hide the dynamic. Again, far from perfect….

  17. Ornaments such as mordents should play back

Noteflight has to include ornaments such as trills, mordants, tremelo, turns before and after the note, grace notes, appogiaturas, and repeat signs that work when you put them in your musical composition. Please, then I and everyone could create beautiful works of MUSIC! PLEASE!

Grace notes, trills, and repeats already do work in Noteflight’s playback, so we will re-name this to include only ornaments such as mordents, which still are not reflected in playback (though they are there for live performers to read!)

  18. Reallocation of Drum Staff parts

Trap Kits are so personal, the staffs should be just as flexible as the kit itself. There are some universals, but allowing the user to reassign a line to a specifc part of the instrument would really be awesome!

  20. create a 5-line percussion staff that includes instruments like triangle, tambourine, and shakers/maracas.

I'm working on a song for my band class and I'd like them to hear the actual sounds of a triangle and tambourine rather than a splash cymbal and a closed hi-hat. These are standard instruments and need to be added to a dedicated percussion staff. We also need to be able to have the snare and the bass drum playing different rhythms at the same time on the staff. This is how percussion parts are written.
