Tell us your thoughts!

We really want to hear from our users! This is where you can submit your ideas to us, request a new feature, tell us what you like or dislike about Noteflight, and find out what our current plans are!

NOTE: If you are having a technical problem, please email support@noteflight.com rather than posting here.

  1. Tempo Changes

The user should be able to create a song with more than one tempo. Please add a feature that would make it possible to change the tempo in different parts of the score.

  2. Add a forum

I would like to be able to talk to other composers for some advice or just to be able to chat about being composers.

  3. Add glissandos

Just thought that glissando's would be a useful feature. I happen to be a trombonist (which still hasn't been added) and would like to see glissando's added. I do appreciate that it would be hard to script a piano glissando, but I hope you will be able to do something about this. Thanks in advance.

We completed glissando feature some months ago but unfortunately missed this request in UserVoice — sorry about the delay in notifying you!

PDF creation is easy on a Mac using the print dialog, and possible on a PC as well. But this option is now fully possible, and easier, on any platform via our HTML5 editor. Switch to it from the Flash editor via the View menu, then find the PDF option in the File menu.

  5. Allow for Dal Segno, Da Capo and a Coda.

    These are important repeat functions.

  6. Play back according to repeat bar lines and endings

I would like to be able to get Noteflight to play back my score according to repeat barlines, DC al fine, and in this context also make the first repetition play the first ending, and second repetition play second ending and so on.

Playback of repeats and endings is now available shortly for both the Free and Crescendo versions.

  7. Support arpeggiated chords

In sheet music, a zig-zag line next to a chord indicates arpeggiation, and means that the notes of the chord should be played in quick sequence rather than at once.

We just released this feature in 2.7.1! View menu now allows measure numbers to be displayed/printed at start of each system.

  9. Support pedal notations, 8va/8vb, etc.

Lots of piano music uses these notations. C'mon, Noteflight, get to work!

  10. add duplets

In pieces that are in 12/8 or 6/8 time, it is sometimes necessary to put in a duplet figure, but the Create Tuplet menu only offers triplets and bigger tuplets. Can we add duplets?

  11. let users change default (new) score

Most of the time I want to start a score with a guitar part, but as always, a new score starts with piano. So I have to wait for all the piano sounds to load before I create a guitar staff, and then delete the piano staffs. It would be nice if every user could set thier default preferences so new scores would be more what they want.

This feature has been added to the latest version of Noteflight! Now your last template is saved to your browser so that you never have to worry about scrolling back to the template you always use—because it will already be selected.
This works in both the HTML5 and flash versions of the site.
    Enjoy!

  12. Support slurs and phrasing

You've got all these articulation symbols in Noteflight -- how about some slurs, breath marks, and other useful notations for musical phrasing?

  14. Add guitar tab notation

I was really happy to transform my guitar tabs into real sheet music, but it would be great if you could allow tabulature notation, e.g.

    e|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
    b|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
    g|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
    d|-2-2222-------------------2-2222-----------2-2222--------------------------|
    a|-2-2222-3p2p0-2p0-3p0-2p0-2-2222-3p2p0h2---2-2222-3p2p0-2p0-3p0-2p0--------|
    D--2-2222--------------------------------------------------------------------|

Especially finger picking techniques are needed, e.g. bending, plucking, sliding, etc.

Guitar tablature is part of Noteflight Crescendo, our premium service. We will soon be releasing additional guitar tab features like bends/releases, slides, hammer-on/pull-off and more.

  15. Support grace notes, ornaments and tremolandi

Grace notes, ornaments, tremolandi, and so on are essential ingredients. Get these notations into the application, please!

  16. Fixed number of measures per line, fixed measure size

I don't like the dynamic layouts that are generated sometimes -- I end up with one measure with only a rest taking up an entire line because I use a line break. There should be a way to turn off justified measures and size them however you'd like to. There should also be a way to force a certain number of measures to each line -- the music would be easier to read if each line had four bars than if it changes randomly. Thanks.

  17. Let users change tuning and string amount for guitar/bass tab

This isn't imperative, but I suggest that users can change the tuning of their guitar/bass part and the amount of strings for it (4-8, maybe?) Guitar tab is more convenient for notating the part (especially for chords, in my opinion), and, of course, some people experiment with various tunings.

  18. Add notes with a MIDI keyboard

It would be great to be able to add notes with a MIDI keyboard. Obviously not everyone using this site will have one, but for the people who do have a MIDI keyboard it would be an intuitive convenience.

  19. Add crescendos and decrescendos

As far as I can tell, it is only possible to show dynamics through the different letter notations, and not through things such as crescendos. Please add these.

We have just added hairpins (< and >) in Release 1.4. The actual words “cresc.” and “dim.” can already be added using the Expression Text feature.

  20. Comments. Allow users to comment on public scores.

Seems pretty obvious, if somebody has made their score public they obviously want other people to listen to it. I don't think it's too much to presume they'd also like to receive comments on their music. I saw somebody else suggested ranking scores, but I think this would be to competitive, too vulnerable to upmod / downmod squad tactics.
