  1. Allow Customized Text Fonts

At the moment, when writing the score name, or composer/lyricist name at the top of a score, you can only use one font, and one colour (black) and one size, and no italics, underlines, bolds allowed.

Also, when writing text within the score, e.g. lyrics, playing directions, etc. you can currently use only one font, and no bolds or underlines, or italics. With crescendo, you can change the colour, but Noteflight Crescendo only offers eight colours - not much. It would be much better if Noteflight could offer more fonts, text sizes, colours, and functions like italics, bold, and underline.…

  2. How about a second time only feature?

This way when I have to repeat and I want to add an instrument but only for the second time, I don't have to write it all out again.

  3. Improve drum notation

Noteflight needs to add a rimshot option for drum set and marching percussion and a rim knock and/or rim click for drum set. Also add support for double stroke rolls and buzz rolls, flams, diddles, drags and cheeses for marching perussion. There should be an option to mix and match percussion staves to a single stave ex. add cowbell to basic percussion. In addition, all drum set parts should be separate voices or at least have that option. It would also be great to have a variety of cymbal and drum sounds and types and to be able to balance…

  4. allow for the number of strings in tablature to be changed.

Some basses and bass music call for more than four strings. Some guitars and guitar music call for more than six strings. I wish Noteflight would allow you to add strings to your tabs. I'm sick of writing out tabs for a five string bass on guitar tabs because at the end, when I go print, I have an extra string that throws me off when I go to read the sheet music.

  5. have more features for email notifications.

I'm using NoteFlight in my piano studio, and it'd be great if I could edit my email preferences so that I receive notifications when students add new material, ask a question, or share something with me.

  7. refine piano pedal notation and playback

Make pedaling notation user freindly, easier to read, and more stremlined by giving users a choice in what kind of styling to use. (Ped. * or just a line w/carrots ______^________)

  8. improve keyboard shortcuts

There are a lot of functions that should have a keyboard shortcut, but don't:
anything in the menu. (ex. change clef)
    moving up/down staves
move to the beginning or end of the piece
move to the next section or page, or perhaps jump eight measures in strip layout
    go to measure number
    move staff up or down
    select multiple staves

  9. Create a random button

Wouldn't Noteflight be more fun and interesting if we had a random button that we could click on? It would take us to a random public score. This could bring attention to music that we may have never heard before.

  10. Rare Instruments

We have all the common instruments, but it would be SOOOOO much better if we could compose for rare instruments. Here are some that I'd like added:

    Woodwind:
    - Contrabassoon
    - Alto, Bass, Contrabass and Subcontrabass Flute
    - Bass and Contrabass Saxophone
    - Change 'English Horn' to 'Cor Anglais'

    Brass:
    - Piccolo and Bass Trombone
    - Euphonium

    Strings:
    - Octobass
    - Bass and Cello (we have these, but they need to extend their ranges below the C at 2 ledger lines below the bass staff)

    Vocal:
    - Male Altos and Sopranos
    - Female Tenors and Basses
    - Countertenor
    - Contrabass …

  11. Braces/brackets for instrument groups

All other notation software companies like Sibelius etc. have put in the most basic of music notation signs - braces/brackets for voice and instrument groups. I am writing for SATB but for it to be published it must have a brace. The finished article has got to look professional and at the moment the finished score doesn't. At the moment I have to transfer it to Musecore and it's getting rather tedious. Please, please can you give this your priority?

  12. Add actual jazz chord notation - not modified classical.

Slash Chords, use of the maj7th triangle and diminished * symbol. Also the invisible chords boxes should be overlays not opaque white boxes which obscures the staff in default positioning.

Overall, Noteflight is very weak for working with jazz charts and scores. It really needs improvement in this area.

  13. Allow to have 3 or more voices per staff, instead of just 2

It is a pretty basic function that most other composition programs offer, and have been used for hundreds of years in different kinds of notation. It is too limiting as it is presented today on noteflight, and have been that for too long.

  16. Create Chords and Bass Lines from Chord Symbols

So you can type in your chords, then have Noteflight auto-notate a bass line or chords for the symbol. It seems quite simple to do, as you each chord has it's distinct sound...

  17. Allow Custom Templates to Be Created

I recently upgraded to Cresendo, and was a bit disappointed with the instrument selection feature. When you open a new score, the program asks you to chose a template. While all of these options are pretty good, I would like to both be able to create my own templates and title them myself, or be able to select the unique instruments I want in the beginning without having to choose a template and either add or delete instruments.

We agree. However, an easy way to achieve templates in Crescendo today is for you to create your own template scores and put them in a Collection called “templates”. When you want a new score, open one of these template scores and choose File > Save A Copy.

  20. Give members one month free trial Crescendo!

This will give everybody a fair opportunity for them to make the most out of note flight. If members like it they are more likely to buy the full version!
