  1. add 5x7 or 5½x7 to the page size menu for flip folder pep and marching band

PLEASE add this size for those of us that arrange for marching/pep band.

currently this requires working in letter landscape then doing tricks with adobe .pdf

it would be best if it could print in the center of the paper to ensure maximal use of the sheet [different printers have different margins] with a box drawn around the chart to size for easy cut-out

nice-to-have would be 2 up on a page to save paper

  2. Staff Size Control - Make Smaller Staff Option

It would be usefule to have the ability to change the staff size independent of other staves. For example, to display a solo part in a smaller size while keeping the piano accompaniment large.

  3. Easier switching between playback mode and note entry

The old Notelfight allowed me to enter in notes, and then easily listen by hovering over the play button, pressing "p", or even selecting a track and just listening to it alone. Now, hovering doesn't make the play button appear (I have to actually click on the gray part above the staff, then hover), and when I do finally enter playback mode, I can't just hit the space bar to pause it and immediately edit notes. I have to either click "Edit", or press the escape button, but it takes just long enough to be annoying, and the fact that…

We have made some speed improvements in the switchover between modes. That doesn’t address everything you said, and we are thinking about that too, but do you find that it’s a bit better since when you posted this?

  4. Disable note playback while editing

Besides the annoyingness and the uselessness (what composer in the world would not know how the notes he want will sound like?), it tentatively introduces a small yet bothering lag into the workflow.

  5. add longer note values

So... I'm a dude who enjoys choral composing and writes in 4/2 sort of often, but there is currently no breve option so I have no choice but to tie two whole notes together; it looks sort of unaesthetic.

  6. Noteflight's guitars are very limited compared to actual guitars

There are many things missing under Noteflight's guitar to-do list but one thing I find slightly annoying is that distorted guitars don't sound very distorted; and it makes it harder to write music in a more metal style or harder rock. On top of that, Several effects are missing such as Pick scraping, and bend-releases, and those can be very vital in filling the emptier part of songs.

Another thing is that there should be a picked bass option to give a more rock feel to some of the pieces rather than the basic electric bass and the Rock-electric bass…

  8. Include instrument ranges

This would not be difficult, though it would be time consuming considering the number of instruments. It would be nice if the instrument ranges could be included in the programming so you don't have to worry about accidentally going out of range. Now this would be partially for people who work with lots of instruments and it's difficult to memorize every single range of every single instrument, partially for people who might accidentally go one or two below the range accidentally (and don't find out until it's difficult to change), and partially because sometimes I try to deselect and instead…

  9. More Essential Clefs

    Hello!

Over the past few months, I have really wanted to have a bigger selection of clefs. My suggestion would be, if you double click on any clef, it would bring you to a small screen (like the key signature one) that would have the following clefs:

    - Treble Clef
    - 8va Treble Clef
    - 15ma Treble Clef
    - Tenor Voice Clef
    - Bass Clef
    - Octave Bass Clef
    - 15ma Bass Clef
    - Octave (up) Bass Clef
    - Alto Clef
    - Tenor Clef
    - Soprano Clef
    - Mezzo-Soprano Clef
    - French Clef
    - Baritone Clef
    - Subbass Clef
    -…

  10. allow one to increase all note/rest lengths by some proportionate amount (adjusting for measures).

There should be a function to increase or decrease the lengths of all notes/rests in a piece, or for some selected section, by a scaled amount. For example, in a section consisting of only sixteenth/quarter notes and rests, "2X" would double all these to eighth/half notes/rests. There should also be an adjustment for any necessary increase in measures.

  12. Add a reply feature to the comments

Often, I get a vague suggestion like, 'add some slurs,' in the comments of my projects. it would be great if there was a feature that I could reply to these comments and the other party would be notified, so I could get a response that I can use to improve my work with.

  14. Printing Protections

Noteflight allows any user to print any other users score or individual parts without notification to the composer. This is allowed via terms of service, but is not secure because any one an print and play your music without any notification or permission. A second point to this being un useful is that when a composer does block the "export" function, which includes exporting a pdf or individual parts, any one can still print out the pdf, making this confusing to users. Notelfight should revise their terms of service to allow a composer the right to allow their scores to…

  15. Adequate HTML5 version because of the mandatory merge

Since July 1st marks the end of the Flash version of NF, I've compiled the 10 most important complaints Flash users have made about the HTML5 version on the forums. There are good and bad things in both versions, and the really good things about Flash should be incorporated in HTML5 so that the editor is better, and so that the transition is as less traumatic as possible, for a large part of the community still uses the old version.

    These are my findings:

1 - memory requirements improvement (urgent and topmost): many users, especially those that work on lap…

    Hi all,

Are you finding that our editor is working better for you? What are some pain points that are still happening for you? We know that with very large scores, editing can still be slow.

    Thanks!

  16. make forte piano (fp, fz, or sffz) and bell tones (fz) affect the sound quality.

i love bell tone like dynamics, and my favorite and bestest strength of music is dynamics.
it would be awesome if those dynamics weren't stagnant.

For col legno, just use an expression text item and type the words.

Bartok pizz. doesn’t exist as such but you can create one by combining the “Open” in the symbols menu with a short vertical line in the Lines menu – I had to drag the end points of the line carefully. Once you do one though, you can copy-paste (first, shift-click the note to select so that includes the line), or use the R command to repeat then change the pitches in the repeated ones. If you email support@noteflight.com we will send an image to show you.

  18. Allow Changing of Instruments Mid-Staff

For example, changing from xylophone to glockenspiel in a mallet part. I strongly urge you guys to add that feature, at least to crescendo. It would be extremely helpful when writing for marching/concert band, percussion ensemble, etc.

    This would be useful!

For now, you can get the effect this way:

    1. Create all the staves/parts/instruments you’ll need for the whole piece.
    2. Create a system/line break, or page break, at the point you want the new section, or instrument change, to begin.
    3. Select all the unused measures before the switchover in one part, and use the ‘Hide/Show measures’ tool in the ‘measures’ palette to hide them.
    4. Likewise, select all the unused measures after the switchover in the other instrument, and use ‘Hide/Show measures’ to hide them.

    See: https://www.noteflight.com/guide/new#action-hideShowMeasure

Note: the result will only appear correctly when you are in Page view.

  20. Custom Articulation / Beam Placement

Please allow for accents to be placed above the staff, regardless of whether the stem is facing up or down. It is very unusual seeing accents below the staff! Thank you!
